Chronic jaw, neck or facial pain can often be traced back to tight, irritated muscles, known as trigger points. At The Dental Rose, we offer trigger point injections as a safe, effective treatment to relieve pain, restore mobility and reduce inflammation in overactive muscles.
This therapy is especially helpful for patients with TMJ disorders, bruxism (clenching/grinding), headaches or myofascial pain.
What Are Trigger Points?
Trigger points are small, tight knots of muscle that form when fibers become contracted and cannot relax. These tender spots can cause localized pain or refer discomfort to other areas of the body, such as the temples, jaw, neck or shoulders.
Common symptoms include:
- Persistent muscle soreness or tightness
- Limited jaw movement
- Tension headaches
- Clicking or popping in the jaw
- Facial or neck fatigue
How Trigger Point Injections Work
Trigger point injections deliver a small amount of therapeutic solution, often a local anesthetic like lidocaine, directly into the affected muscle knot. This helps the muscle relax, improves blood flow and interrupts the pain cycle.
In some cases dry needling (injections without solution) or combined treatment with Xeomin or laser therapy for enhanced results.
Benefits of Trigger Point Injections
- Fast pain relief
- Reduces muscle spasms and tension
- Improves range of motion
- Minimally invasive with little to no downtime
- May help reduce reliance on pain medications
Relief is often felt within minutes to hours after the injection, with full results in a few days. Some patients may benefit from a series of treatments, depending on the severity and frequency of symptoms.
